Allow me to recommend _England's Dreaming_ by Jon Savage for a little bit
of the very early history of Siouxsie and the Banshees. It's a book about
the English Punk community and its origins, a story in which Siouxsie has
a fairly important role. The book is very well written, well researched,
and had some amazing pictures (Siouxsie and Severin in line for a Sex Pistols
show, the COUM poster by Genesis and Cosey, and Poly Styrene looking as
cute as ever come to mind). There are also a number of S&tB books, heavy
on photos and light on substance. Another source would be some of the early
punk zines - Search & Destroy issues at least are still easily available
from the RE/Search folks.

"But I thought," I said, "that there had been a sexual revolution
and everybody could sleep with anybody who was a consenting adult."
"In theory," Julie said. "In theory. But sleeping with someone
also has a political dimension. One does not, for example, go to bed
with running dogs of imperialism."
I thought: But who will care for and solace the running dogs of
imperialism? Who will bring them their dog food, who will tuck the
covers tight as they dream their imperialistic dreams?
